The Apple Car launch will be delayed until 2026, the car will also use lidar and radar sensors along with cameras
The Apple Car has been in the news for quite some time now and is expected to launch an electric vehicle with autonomous driving by 2026, allowing users to play games in the car.
Apple has postponed until 2026 the launch of the “Apple Car,” an electric vehicle that will cost less than $100,000. According to Gizmochina, Apple is narrowing the scope of its self-driving electric vehicle goals. The ‘Titan’ project related to this vehicle seems to be in limbo for some time now. The iPhone maker’s original plan was to create a car without a steering wheel or pedals, allowing passengers to sit next to each other in a limo-like vehicle.
However, the project has now been reduced in scope and the Apple Car will have a more traditional design with a driver’s seat, steering wheel and pedals. The vehicle will not have fully autonomous driving or self-driving features, but will be able to drive itself on highways.
Apple Car will provide enough autonomy for users to play games or watch videos while driving on the road but will beg you to take care when you are in the city or during bad weather. As the tech giant has revamped the features and technology for the vehicle, the Apple Car will now cost less than $120,000, which was first expected.
Apple’s previous vision for the car was to provide “Level 5” autonomy – the pinnacle of self-driving technology, which no automaker has achieved. The current scheme is considered below because of its more limited scope.
Apple Car plans to differentiate itself from Tesla by using a combination of lidar and radar sensors along with cameras. The setup helps the car determine its location, see the driving lane and assess how far it is from other objects and people. Tesla relies on cameras, while Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo and others use a combination.
Apple was expected to sell the Apple Car for more than $120,000, but the company is now aiming to offer consumers the vehicle for less than $100,000, according to the people. That would put it in the same price range as the entry-level version of Tesla’s Model S and Mercedes-Benz’s EQS.
Apple has not yet settled on the design of the Apple Car and the vehicle is believed to be in the “pre-prototype” stage. The company aims to have the design ready by next year and have its specifications set by the end of 2024.
